The reluctance on difficulty/reluctance to change one’s world view can be seen in the rejection of the duckbill platypus by people who were unwilling to admit to something so far outside their worldview. This reminds me of how, so many people in Europe seemed to think that “bad things don’t happen here” and that there was no need to worry, or do anything about the Nazi agenda.
This notion which was progressively disproved from 1939 – 1945 Anno Domini.

    Sometimes bad things don’t happen. Stating one high impact occurance, as if it expresses the thousands of years of human history, hardly seems convincing to me.
